Lao Lianben affirms his position as a master of
subtlety and refined strokes in "Painting on Burlap."
Respecting and working with the burlap's pronounced
and coarse interweaving, the artist applies his
thoughts on it which assume the whorls and undulations
of the fiber. His concept becomes full-bodied form,
his gesture dramatic texture. As much vision as
material, the paintings are the corrugated
ramifications of a singular mind, radiant and instant
like a lightbolt.
