Opening at Finale Art Gallery, SM Megamall A on April 19, 2007 is MM Yu. The show runs until May 8, 2007 and is curated by Roberto Chabet.
On view at the Finale Art Gallery is MM Yu's
"Thoughts, Collected and Recollected." The exhibit
features more than 20 spiral-bound black notebooks
containing the artist's photographs loosely arranged
according to theme, subject, sentiment and impulse of
thought. In love with common folks and the discarded
objects the everyday, the artist captures them without
irony and interpretation, allowing their ghastly
beauty to emerge and permeate her works with an urgent
rawness and honesty so rare in the heavily edited,
digitalized world of photography.
Acting also as an intallation art, the exhibit offers
the viewer a walking tour through the many lives the
artist has lived as an observer, traveler, archivist:
a dazzling surfeit of familiar but oft-ignored images
that compose, cohere and inevitably create the
contemporary world.
