New Works
February 14 to March 4, 2008
In his exhibit Gone to Seed, Juan Alcazaren iterates the inevitability of patterns that composes our world, centripetally emerging to a moment of palpability and visual delight. The artist, instead of brandishing his works as merely homage to fluent repetitions around us, disrupts them by situating the concatenated forms against a field that resembles a broken-down circuit board-its lines abstracting and ultimately challenging the balance and the beauty of patterns. The color of rust and industrial waste, the field seems to emphasize the disruptive quality of the industrial, corrupting the sinuous lines of nature transmogrified into quasi-evocations of a world we once knew, instigating a feeling of awe and menace towards a future of pure hybridities and transformations.
