Wanted II / Shamanism

The artist renders the portraits of his fellow artists defined by deep and heavy brushstrokes, nervous and full of reckoning. In this age of celebrity-worship where a single photograph can mythologize a person, the portaits are at once unrehearsed and iconoclastic. His subjects, with their full gaze on the viewer, seem to be posing for a police mugshot and are internally resisting the documentation. With the portraits' varying tones and textures, the exhibit escapes from being repetitive, asserting that a person, apprehended in a painting or photograph he may be, is still a differentiated, highly nuanced individual.
