EXHIBITED WORKS
Finale Art File, LaO Center, Makati City
New Works
Febuary 1 to 20, 2008
In her "New Works", opening on Feb. 1 at the Finale
Art File
(4/F LaO Center, Pasay Road cor. Makati Ave.,
Makati City) Francesca Enriquez exhibits 'horror
vacui,' filling canvases with a sweeping
conglomeration of objects: tilted, juxtaposed and
outlined, exerting their various and determined claims
on every available inch of space.
Unlike her previous works that exemplified solely the
assorted things of contemporary life, her works this
time feature the appearance of human figures caught in
this dense jungle of matter. Burdened by the stuff
that surround and prevail on them, they seem to be
swallowed in the chaos, as if they have been
commodified and turned into objects themselves.
As a deft commentary on the consumerist culture, the
exhibit mirrors the mad rush to possess and to hoard
as a way to relate to and affirm the world, until the
tenuous human experience is squeezed into the
interstitial gap between inanity and acquisition.
