Turning Tides

Opening at the Finale Art File (4/F LaO Bldg. Arnaiz Ave., Makati City) on July 11 is Yasmin Sison's "Turning Tides." The exhibit, says the artist, is "an ongoing interest in memory and remembering." Portraying children in a moment of reverie by the surf which is haunted by battering waves and threatening clouds, the artist, in pictorial detail, affix them in a moment of stillness, caught as they are "in an imperturbable world between tides parting." Though lyrical in composition, the works clarify our vision toward a romance with an idealized past especially the short-lived phase of youth, asserting that every thing--children, water, memory--is at once blessed and ravished by time.
