Post Mortem
by Carlo Gabuco
June 16 - July 6, 2009
In Carlo Gabuco's "Post-Mortem," the artist investigates the tumult of images and (mis-)information that cloud our attention as we are immersed in the sea of "game shows, soap operas, billboards and fast-changing advertisements." In our complete devotion to them, we are hostaged from urgent and real concerns of daily life, tending to overlook "some of the complex and more significant issues." The artist, in trying to alert us of these concerns, presents startling, disturbing and sometimes violent images that are missed by soundbites and sleek camera shots--the brutalities we must comfront if we are to restore the place and the equilibrium of the individual in a world that "sells, robs, rapes, abandons and eradicates it."
