Opening at the Video Room of Finale Art File (Warehouse 17, La Fuerza Compound, Gate 1, 2241 Pasong Tamo, Makati City ) is Lena Cobangbang 's "Crater Valley Plateau." As a continuing process in simulating natural enviroments through the use of food and other consumerist products which are then made to appear life-like through visual and photographic tricks, the exhibit this time punctures the serious atmosphere of her experiments through startling juxtapositions. The artist throws in whimsical details in her works such as the "surfing little man holding a homunculus in a bloody wintry bulbous, pockmarked landscape" to convey the troublesome and troubling conditions of such created environments. More than mimetic, her works offer an ironic twist, arguing that we are not the true guardians of Nature, that our mere presence already violates the landscape and that the "so-called sublime is really unattainable that we have to kitschify it."
