Opening at the Video Room of Finale Art File (Warehouse 17, La Fuerza Compound, Gate 1, 2241 Pasong Tamo, Makati City ) on April 7 is Roma Valles’ Reflecting Matter. In this exhibit, the artist ponders upon and interrogates the materials—and by and large, the material culture—that compose our world. Their volatile or, conversely, their stable properties, the artist points out, are the primary components of civilization and the building blocks of what we consider as the greatest human achievement: art. By highlighting their intrinsic, human-immune processes, the artist argues that we are beholden to their mutability as much as to their materiality: the mortal shadow that attends to our every structural accomplishment.
