Image Trap
by Wire Tuazon
May 9- June 6, 2009
Wire Tuazon, arguably one of the best artists in the country, adds "Image Trap" to his far-ranging, inexhaustible and electrifying opus where he triangulates the painting’s image, text and title to generate explosive associations which inevitably unhinge the viewer from his usual assumptions and expectations of a work of art. In this sense, the works function both figuratively and conceptually, complicating not merely the viewer/art dialectic but also the internal systems within the painting that makes it at once the signifier and the signified. Masterfully in the consistency of his techniques and unflagging in his intellectual pursuits, Wire Tuazon offers us a startling, multi-layered world that somehow fits and goes beyond the parameters of the contemporary.
