Opening on Jan. 19 at Gallery Orange in Bacolod City, in cooperation with Finale Art File, is the two-man show of Ranelle Dial and Bembol dela Cruz: "When they Left: They Think Right." In this exhibit that augurs a good year for the gallery, the two artists fork ways in terms of thematic concerns that exemplify the strength and range of their respective styles. While Dial is meditative toward seemingly common objects in the form of empty shelves and spaces, highlighting their disrepair and uselessness into the level of anguish, dela Cruz, on the other hand, exposes the violence in the juxtaposition of tools that create and destroy against the larger realm of castles and other pieces Western architecture. Despite the differences, their works eeriely echo each other beyond their muted gray tones and subtle hints of disaster, the connective tissue being the cold abandonment of things indicating human progress as well as its inevitable decline.
