Known for her works of supple shapes and figures, Pardo de Leon, this time completely goes the abstract route with “Related Stories.” Deeply gestural in their employment of seemingly harmonious colors, the paintings suggest vibrant energy fields, such as sprawling gardens from a bird’s eye view or digital noise right before it accrues into something figurative and intelligible. They are intoxicatingly visual and uniquely symphonic for the resonances they create from canvas to canvas, all of which exude an emotive quality despite the starkness of the strokes. The artist, even in abstraction, hasn't lost the meticulous and thoughful quality of her hand.
