Dire Patterns
by Antipas Delotavo
February 10 to 22, 2010
Dire Patterns, Antipas Delotavo’s exhibit last year at the National University of Singapore Museum, will open at the Tall Gallery of Finale Art File on Feb. 10. Still at the pulse of the socio-realist vein, but this time problematizing the role of art and culture in the world, Delotavo explores the paradoxes of classical forms vs. mass-produced commercialism. The decorative patterns of the wallpaper, within the deceptive safety of enclosures, seem to numb the mind from external catastrophes. “In a style at once subtle and acute,” says art critic Alice Guillermo, “he sheds light on the tensions, contradictions, and reversals that roll and erupt on the surface of the globe. Beyond the purely expository, his art is both revelatory and interrogative, posing questions and pursuing implications that linger in the mind long after the show.” Dire Patterns is organized together with Artesan Studio.
