I Wanna Be An Artist
by JEONA ZOLETA

May 6 to 28, 2011

On view at the Upstairs Gallery of Finale Art File, I Wanna be an Artist by Jeona Zoleta is an exuberant, eye-catching and color-obsessed exhibit that is steeped with the recent permutations of Pop and its love of fame and bling. The gallery has been turned into a virtual playground of fantasies, desires and longings of someone just emerging from childhood to the full flowering of womanhood, all the while documenting her uneasy, and sometimes violent, transition into suites of paintings, wood cutouts, pink graffiti, drawings and found objects. Instead of dealing with profound themes that being an artist inevitably connotes, the artist has chosen to stick to her guns, drawing from the bold and sexually-charged energies of youth, stripping irony from her pursuits and inspirations to come up with an exhibit that is wild, humorous and unforgettable.
