Treading the Waters with Baby Steps
by MARK SANCHEZ

May 6 to 28, 2011

In Treading the Waters with Baby Steps, on view at the Video Room of Finale Art File, Mark Sanchez underscores the material components that constitute art--willful instruments to the artist's aims and agendas. He explores--and juxtaposes--the possibilities of found objects, collage and conceptual pieces with the more conventional techniques of oil on canvas and acrylic on wood. He has paintings, sculptures, mixed media. Breaking the taboo of organic and thematic cohesion, Sanchez argues against individual and indivudalizing style and prefers a more versatile and fluid form of inspiration that can be evoked by anything and everything: a stuffed toy, blocks of wood, or a fish inside a glass bottle. Rich in association and contradiction, Treading the Waters with Baby Steps shows how an artist flexes his artistic muscles to come up with an autobiographical imprint of his dreams and ideas.
