Recent Works
by Bernardo Pacquing
July 1 - 27, 2010
On view at the Upstairs Gallery is Bernardo Pacquing's Recent Works. In this exhibit, the artist explores the dynamism of technology as enacted by fuel combustion and the soul of machinery, investigating the extent to which mankind would go "in the name of comfort." The resulting works are evocative of engine process, nature of speed, and--inevitably--the disintegration of things; the planet Earth, represented as slats of wood in a state of breakdown, is the ultimate sufferer from man's advancement of civilization. Both as a praise and a lamentation for the gifts of Industrial Revolution, Recent Works limns man's ever insatiable need to push boundaries in stark contrast to the external world that supplies him with the resources.
